Let's Scrap Sketches Design Team: Boy Life

Hello my scrappy friends!! Can you believe we are already half way through June? With that being said, it's reveal time at Let's Scrap Sketches! Here is the sketch for June 15:

And here is my take on the sketch:

Instead of a double page spread of two 12 x 12 layouts, I switched it up and did a 12 x 12 layout on the left and a 6 x 12 layout on the right! I love how it turned out!

I dug DEEP into my stash of scrapbooking supplies and photos for this layout. These photos are of my oldest son when he was about 2 years old. He will soon be 16!! Wowzers!! 

My inspiration for this layout came from the sketch of course, but also from this awesome cut file from Paper Issues. They have lots of free cut files and I just adore this one! I cut it on my Silhouette portrait using white cardstock from Michael's and then backed the letters using paper from my stash. I know some of the paper is from Jillibean Soup, but I've had most of it so long that I can't remember where its from!!

I dug out some old felt pieces that I believe are from Fancy Pants from many years ago. That frog is just so adorable and perfect for a fun, outdoor layout. I used lots of the felt stars as well.

For all of the stamping on my layout, I used an October Afternoon  stamp set. 

I used green and blue archival ink that I bought from Michael's to do my stamping. I inked the edges of everything on my  layout using distress ink in the color of tea dye. 

For my journaling area, I stamped a large parenthesis using some brown chalk ink and then outlined it with a brown Zig pen to make it stand out. 

On the right side, there is a little pocket that holds some tags. 

I found a paper in my stash that all the letters of the alphabet and each letter had a corresponding word to describe boys. I cut out the letters that spelled my son's name and stuck them in the pocket.

First Day of Ninth Grade-Traveler's Notebook

Traveler's notebooks seem to be all the rage these days when it comes to documenting your memories. Have you jumped on that bandwagon trend?  

I've tried using a traveler's notebook a few times and the size is kind of intimidating. I like having lots of room to  play around with, so that small size is hard for me.

With that being said, I'm giving it a shot. I've decided to document my oldest son's high school journey in a traveler's notebook. My plan is to have one notebook for each of his 4 years of high school. I want to be able to give these notebooks to him when he graduates. Yes, I have plenty of larger albums that will one day be his if he wants them, but I wanted these traveler's notebooks to be more personal and something he could take with him where ever he goes. They are much easier to take with you verses a big 12 x 12 album. 

 Here is my first spread in his 9th grade notebook. He just finished his 9th grade year, so I'm hoping to catch up and finish this album this summer!

I'm using a traveler's notebook that has white mixed media paper in it. I won this TN during National Scrapbook Day from Beth Soler. She has an Etsy shop where she makes and sells traveler's notebooks. Check out her shop here!! 

For this layout, I tore a piece of the paper off on the right side and added some patterned paper Amy Tan's 'On a whim' collection. I added a label that I stamped in some green Ranger archival ink. The label is a stamp from Kelly  Purkey. The star on top of the label is from Bella Blvd. as are all of the smaller stars on this layout. The acrylic stars are from Elle's Studio. I added a word label sticker from Simple Stories, a label from Bella Blvd and another stamped word from a Dear Lizzy roller stamp.

The mixed media on my pages is a combination three colors of distress ink. I used peacock feathers, salted ocean and mowed grass. I just stamped some of the color on some plastic packaging, added a little water and smooshed it around on my page. I added some splatters as well. 

The number 9 is an old chipboard piece from my stash that I covered in distress ink and outlined with a Signo Uniball white pen. I used a couple of alphas from my stash for the rest of the title. The letters that spell 'grade' are from Pinkfresh Studio. 

I typed his high school name on my computer using the 'Mom's Typewriter' font. I added the date with my Heidi Swapp roller date stamp. I cut out a few cameras from that Amy Tan paper to place at the bottom of the left side, just to bring the two pages together.

I have to say that I enjoyed making this spread in my traveler's notebook. I can't wait to share more with you. 

NCSU Game: Let's Scrap Sketches

It's June 1st, my friends, which means it's time for a new sketch over at Let's Scrap Sketches!

These photos are from 2011 and I'm glad to finally have them in my scrapbook!!

I found the NC State paper at Archiver's many years ago and I was glad to have it to use for this layout. I also bought the NCSU die cut at Archiver's.

For the top strips on my layout, I used washi tape, patterned paper and ribbon. I used the football paper for the pendants at the top of my page and embellished using some label stickers from Simple Stories and some puffy stars from Bella Blvd.

The red and white stripped envelope holds more photos from our fun day. 

I used a lot of Elle's Studio products to embellish with, such as this label that says the best and the one that says love these days!

My title consists of the NCSU die cut that I mentioned earlier, along with some really old letter stickers from my stash. I added another word label and some more Bella Blvd. stars.
